Ringo CHIU, a graduate of the 23rd cohort of the Department of Journalism and Communication at Hong Kong Chu Hai College (HKCHC), won the 2021 Pulitzer Prize in the Breaking News Photography Category. Ringo, who acted for the Associated Press, together with nine other photojournalists of the same team, received this honor. In a series of incidents in which an African American man, George Floyd, was knelt to death by a police officer last year, causing riots in multiple cities, Ringo and his teammates recorded the situation at that time by use of their camera lens.  They were rewarded with the Pulitzer Prize. The Pulitzer Prize is regarded globally as the highest honor in journalism.

Mr. Ringo CHIU graduated from Chu Hai College with a B.A. degree in Journalism and Communication in the 1990s. He then worked for a few newspapers in Hong Kong and won the Best News Photograph Award in 1992, 1993 and 1994. In 1995, Ringo went to study at the California State University of Northridge, where he obtained his second B.A. degree in photojournalism. Currently, Ringo is the best ethnic Chinese photographer among the mainstream media of USA. His photographic works have won wide acclaim in the photojournalism industry and got published around the world. He is nominated finalist for Breaking News Photography of the 2019 Pulitzer Prize.
