Chu Hai College Information Day 2020

11-20,2020

Chu Hai College Information Day
Saturday, 21 November 2020

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s Information Day was held both at event sites on the College campus and on the Internet simultaneously. Prior to the Information Day, the College uploaded video clips on programmes of its various Departments and relevant admission information to its Information Day webpage. On the Information Day, students and parents, by appointment, came to the College to find out more about the programmes, tour around the campus, and participate in activities such as workshops and exhibitions on specific topics. Some students also applied on-site for admission and attended priority interviews. Other activities included “KOL New Cyber Celebrity Training Talk 2020” (KOL網紅新人王2020訓練講座), “Your Ideal Community – Joint-Institution Micro-Film Festival” (「您想社區」聯校微電影展), etc.

Among various online Information Day events, there was the online feature seminar with the topic “We Stay Calmer under the Pandemic” (疫情中的我們更從容). Its guest speakers included Hong Kong film and TV actor, screen writer, director, producer and show host Mr. Eric TSANG Chi Wai, President of Chu Hai College, geological engineer and water resource expert Prof LEE Chack Fan, and Director of Chu Hai College Centre of Buddhist Studies and Abbot of Po Lin Monastery Venerable Jing Yin. The guests had an exchange conversation on the seminar topic using the Buddhist thoughts of the Four Noble Truths (the truths of suffering, of the cause of suffering, of the end of suffering, and of the path leading to the end of suffering) as the theoretical basis for the four steps to leave suffering and attain bliss and with references to the case of the COVID-19 pandemic. On the basis of understanding the truth of the COVID-19 pandemic and its causes, they explored how victims in adversity could calmly walk out of their plight and attain a life of ease and diligence. When their conversation was over, the speakers began a lively discussion after receiving a number of questions from the audience.

The President of Chu Hai College Prof LEE Chack Fan remarked, “The entire world, including Hong Kong, is suffering from the torment of the COVID-19 pandemic. In view of this, many people facing adversity may feel adrift, confused, struggling, evading, insufferable and desperate. The College hopes that today’s seminar could offer everyone some stress-releasing ways as well as positive energy.”
