Jointed curated by Antiquities and Monuments Office and Hong Kong Chu Hai College, this exhibition aims at demonstrating the successful accomplishment of Chu Hai architectural students on the Hong Kong built heritage research. The exhibition is created from one of the B.Sc. (Hons.) Architecture programme core courses entitled “ARE401 Studies on Architectural History and Theory,” taught by Dr. Ken TOO and Dr. Edwin WU. The course works shed light on the following themes: architectural culture, heritage conservation, architectural form and structure, building materials, and building rite and ritual, etc. By adopting the learning methods of digital and physical modelling, a comprehensive picture of the Chinese architectural aesthetics and meaning is revealed.

Usually, architects draw 2D Plan, Elevation and Section to represent the survey result of the heritage conservation. The lines on the 2D drawings actually embedded lots of information which could not be easily revealed. Nowadays, with the advancement of 3D technologies such as 3D digital modelling, 3D scanning, 3D printing and AR (Augmented Realty) and VR (Virtual Realty), the multi-layered information of heritage conservation can be analyzed, archived and presented in much more comprehensive and interesting ways.

In this exhibition, some of the study results from the following six historical buildings are highlighted for public sharing, namely, Tang Chung Ling Ancestral Hall, Tang Ancestral Hall, Ha Tsuen, Yan Tun Kong Study Hall, Chik Kwai Study Hall, Tang Kwong U Ancestral Hall, and Leung Ancestral Hall. We hope the works of our architectural students over the years demonstrate their heartfelt love for our home Hong Kong cultural heritage and inspire the general public to integrate the theme of cultural sustainability into the way of living.
